Book Week – week commencing 25th February
To mark this year’s World Book Day, St. Francis will be having a Book Week from Monday 25th February. Class teachers have been busy preparing a mixture of activities that will entice and exhilarate the children in their reading and love for books.
Building on the success of last year, we will once again be holding a Vocabulary Parade to mark World Book Day 2019. Children are asked to select either an adjective, verb or adverb and create a costume illustrating the word to wear on Thursday 28th February. As last year, we ask that children do not come dressed as nouns eg ‘footballer, princess, unicorn’ etc. This will help to increase the children’s exposure to a wider range of vocabulary. All children will have the opportunity on the day to take part in a parade of costumes in the hall, and there will be lots of opportunities for creative work in each class incorporating the words that the children have come dressed up as.
Have fun getting creative – we cannot wait to see this year’s costumes!
Poet visit – Coral Rumble
We are arranging for a local poet to come in and share their work with the children. As a class, they will take part in an exciting, interactive session, where the children will be able to help create a piece of poetry. There will be an opportunity for children to purchase one of the poet’s books. More details will follow.
Share a poem
To continue the theme of poetry, we are asking that each child brings in either a favourite poem, or poetry book, which they could share with a classmate during the week. Please ensure that all books from home are named, and that they are brought into school on Monday 25th February.
Thank you for all your support, we are looking forward to having a fun-filled, fantastic week!
