Remote Learning
Remote Learning
All pupils should attend school, in line with our attendance policy. At St Francis, we will provide remote education guidance to our pupils in circumstances when in-person attendance is either not possible or contrary to government guidance.
This might include:
- Occasions when we decide that it is not possible for our school to open safely e.g. due to an extreme weather circumstance.
- Occasions when opening would contradict guidance from local or central government e.g. when we follow guidance regarding Covid.
- Occasions when individual pupils, for a limited duration, are unable to physically attend their school but are able to continue learning, for example pupils with an infectious illness. In these instances, we would need to first ensure that pupils are well enough to take part in learning as normal absence due to ill health would suggest that the child would be too unwell to continue with normal education.
Teachers will provide opportunities for remote learning as soon as reasonably practical, taking into consideration your child’s needs. These remote learning tasks will be communicated via Seesaw.
Good practice would suggest that children should take part in activities for up to:
- 3 hours a day for KS1 children, with less for younger children
- 4 hours a day for KS2.
During remote learning, we would encourage you to regularly communicate with your child’s class teacher via Seesaw. Should you need support, or if your child is unable to complete work for any reason then please promptly let us know.
Remote learning has previously proved to be most successful when families engage with school, support their children’s learning and establish a routine that reflects the normal school day as far as reasonably possible.
There are many online resources that families can turn to in the case of requiring remote learning such as:
BBC Bitesize – https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize This website has a wide range of activities, guides and games to cover the whole curriculum.
Oak Academy – https://classroom.thenational.academy/ This website has a wealth of free resources and lessons covering all year groups.
Using school-based resources is a suggested first stop too e.g. Times Tables Rock Stars and Numbots. You should already have your child’s login details for these resources. Completing set homework tasks, for example utilising the ‘pick and mix’ homework sheets will provide children with tasks relevant to the learning they are currently completing in school.
