Year 3 Latest News
Year 3 have been learning in the school forest each week. They have been enjoying working with teams from both Snowy and Barn Owl classes and exploring the wonderful space and abundant nature on display in our school grounds.
They have learnt what makes the ideal nest for a variety of creatures, how to protect the infant animals and how to help the parent creatures feed their young. Next, they constructed a home for a small animal, making sure that there is an entrance and safety from predators. The following week, they made a secure den large enough to accommodate an eight-year-old child.
Later in the term, the children began to develop skills for making tools in the forest, such as by safely peeling the bark from a stick to make a skewer for cooking. Most recently, the children have combined nature with their love of ancient Egyptian history and created hieroglyphs of their names out of leaves, twigs, berries and, even, feathers!
